NSS Units of Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36B, Chandigarh in association with Traffic Police, Chandigarh organised a road show of women two-wheeler riders wearing helmets on the '31st National Road Safety Week' dated 15 January, 2020 under the able guidance of Mrs. Charanjit Kaur and Dr. Harpreet Kaur- NSS Officers of the college. Around 250 women two-wheeler riders including women constables, college students and other women residents participated in the rally starting from Children Traffic Park, Sector 23 ending at the Cricket Stadium Roundabout. The rally aimed at spreading awareness regarding need and importance of following Road Safety Rules by one and all, especially during riding two-wheelers.

- Area of concern cum Efforts of Traffic Police, Chandigarh
Declaring the event open- The rally was flagged off and declared open at about 9 am by Mrs. Raj Bala Malik - Mayor, Chandigarh. In her addressal speech, she emphasised on the need of Road Safety Traffic rules, especially while riding two-wheelers along with appreciating the efforts made by Traffic Police and all the participants for the cause.
Role of participants and provisions made for them in the rally- Women students from DSCE 36B, Chandigarh, Panjab University, DAV College, PGGC-11 and GCG-11; women constables from Traffic Police, Chandigarh along with various women residents of the city joined the rally riding their two wheelers wearing helmets provided by Traffic Police, Chandigarh following all the Traffic rules. The co-riders recited the slogans like- 'Helmet Pehnao, Beti Bachao'; 'Do not Honk', etc all across the way giving message of importance of abiding by the Traffic Safety rules.
Besides free ISI Marked Helmets, all participants were provided with Neon T-Shirts and timely refreshments throughout the path which increased motivation among the volunteers.
Route of the rally- The rally originated from the CTP, Sector 23 passing through 23/24 Light Point to Panjab University Gate No. 2, further going to PGGC Sector 11 and GCG 11, GMSH- 16 Chowk to DAV College, Sector 10, Sector 9/10 Light Point to Matka Chowk, 16/17 Light Point and finally ending at the Cricket Stadium Roundabout which took about 2 hours to complete.
Area of concern cum Efforts of Traffic Police, Chandigarh- The rally focused at sensitising masses against wearing Protective Headgears along with obeying Traffic Rules while riding two-wheelers on road. The volunteers were quoted examples showing fatalities of not following Traffic rules by the Traffic Police and students passionately learned the importance of the cause.
The rally concluded at 11.30 am by fulfiling all its aims and objectives. The efforts of the NSS Team of DSCE 36B were appreciated by Dr. (Mrs.) Agnese Dhillon, Principal- DSCE. A promise was made by one and all to wear protective headgears and follow all the Traffic rules while on road. This marked the end of the event on good note.
