National Eye Donation Fortnight Celebration

NSS units of Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36–B Chandigarh in collaboration with the Eye Donation Club of the college organized an informative session on eye donation awareness. The session is a part of the “Eye Donation Fortnight Celebration” which is observed every year  from 25th August to 8th September. It is a national campaign set up by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India which aims to create mass public awareness about the importance of eye donation and to motivate people to pledge their eyes for donation after death. The team from advanced eye center PGIMER comprising of Dr. Atul Gautam (Manager Eye Bank), Mrs. Harjeet Kaur  (Eye Bank Technician) and Mrs. Amanpreet Kaur (Eye Bank Technician) were invited to deliver the valuable and informative talk. The session began with the College prayer “Bhala Chahna”. Dr. AtulGautam delivered the valuable information on this noble cause (eye donation) and highlighted its importance. Mrs. Harjeet Kaur and Mrs. Amanpreet Kaur also informed the students about the general and specific causes of the poor eyesight or damaged eyes. They presented the data of the blind person’s ratio in the world as well as in India through the power point presentation. They emphasized  how the eye donation can help us as a protector to preserve eyesight as well as to give a ray of hope to a blind person to see this beautiful world.

On this occasion many posters and slogans made by the students were displayed.  The Principal of the college Dr (Mrs) Agnese Dhillon congratulated the NSS Programme officers, Mrs. Charanjit Kaur and Dr. Harpreet Kaur for successfully organizing the session.
