Dev Samaj College of Education, 36-B, Chandigarh is a privately managed aided college by the UT Administration, affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. The college owes its origin to the foresight and sagacity of its founder Patron Most Revered Bhagwan Dev Atma ji, for promoting women education. The college is managed by Dev Samaj Council under the dynamic leadership of Sh. Nirmal Singh ji, the chairman and secretary, Dev Samaj Council. The college takes pride in the past, embraces the power of the present and delivers the promise of the future ever since its inception in 1981, having completed 41 years of meritorious service to the country and to the union territory of Chandigarh in particular, in the field of teacher education for women. It aims to produce future teachers with integrated personalities, who can prove as an asset in the national reconstruction.

Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh is managed by its Managing Committee comprising of 14 members headed by the Chairperson of the Committee. The management is committed to provide quality education to students. To ensure democratic environment in the institution all matters are discussed by involving the Principal and two staff representatives from the college. The head of an institution plays a key role in its successful functioning with the co-operation of well qualified and competent faculty consisting of 22 members, 12 of them holding doctoral degrees, 3 with M.Phil. degrees and majority are U.G.C.-NET qualified.

The institutional goal is to provide holistic education to prospective teachers and to achieve this goal the objectives of the institution envisage values oriented education, develop critical capacities, enhance skills and competencies, preserve socio-cultural heritage, bring peace and harmony in four kingdoms and to acquaint student teachers with the impact of globalization on education. In order to carry on and to regulate varied institutional functions, different committees, houses and clubs perform their assigned work.

Dev Samaj College of Education takes pride in conceding that it is the first college in the northern region to be recognized by NCTE in the year 1997 and it is also the first teacher education college in the northern region to have been accredited with four stars by NAAC. The college was also awarded with grade 'A' in its second cycle & third cycle of assessment (Reaccreditation) in the year 2010 & 2017 respectively.

The college offers four programmes B.Ed., M.Ed., Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counseling and Certificate Course in Human Rights and Value Education. The core curriculum of all the four programmes also includes practicum/work based learning. Since the college has to train its students in teaching learning process, it does have a good linkage with the schools in the city. The practice teaching plans are developed in partnership cooperatively involving the school staff and mentor teachers. During practice teaching period, the school subject teachers also observe the lessons of the student teachers. The heads of the schools interact with the students and give overall feedback about the performance of the student during teaching practice. The college has also initiated “Programme Study Centre of IGNOU” (06016P) in 2103-2014 under which a number of programmes being run through distance learning mode such as B.Ed., M.A (Education), CIG, CPVE, PGDEMA and PGDHE.

In addition to the existing courses prescribed by the Panjab University, Value Education forms a vital part of curriculum to make students aware of the teachers' responsibility in improving the moral fabric of the society. To inculcate the feeling of social responsibility, various clubs have been formed which the student joins according to her own interest. The main purpose of these clubs is to make student teachers aware regarding social conditions and ways to blend them with the main stream. The institution has also adopted social service clubs that include Hamari Kaksha, School on the move project in the adopted village, Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity, Institute for the Blind, Savera (Short Stay Home for Destitute Women), Old Age Home, and Blood Bank GMCH, Sec 32 Chandigarh.

The college is located at the heart of the city and provides students with access to a wide range of facilities including well-equipped classrooms, student's common room, ICT lab, Language Lab and its own canteen. It has its own rich library, sports facilities, and Wi-Fi access. As a part of environment consciousness, the college takes lots of initiatives. The committee promotes green awareness in the campus as well as in the surrounding society through staff and students. Initiatives taken by the college to make the campus eco-friendly include energy conservation, use of solar energy, hazardous waste management and e-waste management. Herbal garden is established in the college campus. The college initiated a novel and experimental scheme, “School on the move” on 11th November 2009, to mark the National Education Day on the Birth Anniversary of an eminent educationist Maulana Abul Kalaam Azad. “School On The Move” is the first of its kind, which is built in a bus that is equipped fully just like a classroom with attractive and colourful teaching aids and a blackboard. The aim of this project is to take school to the underprivileged sections of the society. The enrolled members comprise of different age groups.

The faculty and students have a number of books, patents and research papers published in national and international journals. The college also publishes its own refereed research journal, which has very qualified and experienced members in its board. The faculty members also serve as members of editorial boards for major journals.

The institute contributes in the professional development of the school sector. The institute provides a values-based education that informs the development of ethical judgment and behavior. The College faculty is committed to supporting our students and collaborating with the community in order to prepare our graduates to meet the demands of their profession and exceed their professional goals. The students go for community service in the adopted village and social service centers on regular basis. The college encourages a gamut of extra-curricular activities at state, regional and national levels for the overall development of the students. Prospective teachers are given ample opportunity to participate in co curricular activities. This includes zonal & inter zonal youth festivals, State level skill in teaching competitions, inter college competition and various competitions organized within the institute. Sports and Physical training are compulsory as part of overall development of personality. The institute has the legacy of excellence in academics and co curricular activities. Counseling facilities are available and a full-fledged career guidance cell is operational. A general grievance cell functions under the guidance of the Principal and precautions are in place for the overall safety of students. The Alumnae association 'Sangam' plays an active role in contributing to the growth and development of the institution by participating in various activities including orientation week where they orient the fresher's regarding academics as well as the institution ethos and initiating the book bank facility in the institute. The placement Cell of the college has been launched to train and employ the graduates and post graduates of the college in well-reputed institutions. Student progression records are maintained and regular feedback is sought from the students. Self-evaluation and introspection can only lead to improvement, therefore the tradition of constant revision of plans and policies is strongly upheld.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college ensures the quality of various activities conducted in the college. External members and students are also included in the committees under this cell. The Quality Policy is evolved through meetings and interactions of the Management, Staff members, Students, Alumnae members and other Stakeholders. The management welcomes suggestions from all quarters; even from individuals personally for the improvement, effectiveness and efficiency of the institutional processes. Regular SWOC analysis of the institution with stakeholders helps in formulating policies.
