Witnessing a sharp spike in the cases of Dengue in the city beautiful Chandigarh, NSS Units of Dev Samaj College of Education, 36-B, Chandigarh took an initiative in continuation with the efforts put by Dr Upendrajeet Singh Gill, Assistant Director (Malaria), conducted an awareness campaign on 27th October,2021. This thoughtful activity was suggested by Dr. (Mrs.) Agnese Dhillon, Principal DSCE and was supervised under NSS program officers Mrs. Charanjeet Kaur and Dr. Harpreet Kaur. With the guidance and cooperation of Ms Gurmeet Kaur, Headmistress, different activities were performed in Govt. Model High School, Khajeri, around the campus and in the streets of Khajeri Village. Activities included Awareness Rally and 'Nukkad Natak'- Street play, that was enacted by the NSS volunteers of the DSCE college to spread the awareness regarding various measures of protection from the mosquito born viral disease and safeguarding the health. In addition to this, a door to door interaction was done by the NSS volunteers, students of DSCE and teachers, by reaching out particularly door to door and shop to shop survey of any stagnant water and cleanliness. The students paid visits to the houses and shops, asked the people of all ages related to breeding grounds of mosquitoes, and suggested the ideas of timely intervention and few basic treatments for dengue. The cleanliness management and to eliminate pockets of stagnant water was encouraged. The villagers were happy to see the students with thoughtful initiative and their way of dealing. Nukkad Natak was performed in the school premises too, encouraging the students to continue the drive among neighbours as well. It was a very fruitful day for spreading such a need of the hour awareness of dengue outbreak.
