Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36B, Chandigarh, organized ‘National Seminar on Interdisciplinary Approach in the field of Education - The platform for connecting learning to life with reference to North Western Region of India’, sponsored by The Indian Council of Social Science and Research (ICSSR), Panjab University, Chandigarh on March 3rd, 2020. The focus of the seminar was to spread awareness among teacher educators and teacher trainees regarding global need of introducing interdisciplinary approach to education.
Shriman Nirmal Singh Ji Dhillon – Secretary, Dev Samaj and Chairman, DSCE highlighted education as the biggest source of bringing radical transformation in the society. He focused on the gravity of Value Based Education as propagated by Dev Samaj. Professor Sanjay Kaushik - Director ICSSR, Dean, College Development Council and Panjab University Chandigarh was the Chief Guest for the seminar. At the outset, he congratulated the Principal for taking the good initiative and for selecting a pertinent theme. He enlightened the audience with his viewpoints regarding significance of Education and Virtual Organisations. He emphasized the prominence of Inter – Disciplinary Approach to assist the sustainability of the country’s economy.
Mr. Agus Indra Udayana – Gandhian Activist, Founder President, Ashram Gandhipuri, Bali, Indonesia along with Professor Pankaj Mala from Music Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh were the key note speakers for the event. Dr. (Mrs.) Agnese Dhillon – principal DSCE and Convener of the seminar inaugurated the event with her address and welcomed the dignitaries on behalf of college by offering them saplings.
Mr. Agus Indra Udayana laid stress on Mahatama Gandhi’s philosophy of Education which necessitates instruction of Handicraft and Industry in the contemporary education system. He remarked the value of Peace Education and Education for Poor for the upliftment of the society. Being a constant participant in various National and Inter-National Forums on nurturing democracy, religious harmony through inter-faith dialogue, he has been disseminating Gandhian ideologies through seminars, workshops, competitions and prayers. In co-ordination with the officials from the Provincial Government of Bali, he has established a Bali Dwipa Pura Cultural Centre in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Mr. Agus Indra Udayana has been conferred the Pemuda Pariwisata Harapan Award and Padma Shri for his contribution towards promoting tourism and culture through youth.
The event consisted of two Technical Sessions. Technical session I was conducted by Dr. Pankaj Mala who emphasized on the co-existence of art, science and aesthetics. She conveyed that a teacher should imbibe the qualities first in herself and then only impart it to the students.
Technical Session II comprised of Paper Presentations by numerous delegates and research scholars who participated in the seminar from various institutions of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The sessions were co-ordinated by Dr. Richa Sharma, Associate Professor, DSCE and Dr. Neeru Malik, Assistant Professor, DSCE who presented vote of thanks to the luminaries.
The event was successfully organized and ended on good note.
