IQAC, Animal Lover's Club and Eco Club of Dev Samaj College of Education,36-B, Chandigarh, celebrated 'Pashu Jagat Divas' dedicated to 'Dev Samaj' philosophy of cherishing and treasuring each life of both animate and inanimate in nature. The aim of this event was to create awareness for protecting animals and shun any kind of cruelty towards them. Prof. J. S. Thakur, Deptt. of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER was the resource person and Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal Govt. college of Yoga Education & Health was the Chief Guest of the event.
The event began with a warm welcome extended by Ms. Rajbir Kaur, Incharge Animal Lovers Club. The resource person and chief guest of the occasion were accorded with planters by the Principal DSCE. Subtle spiritual encounter was initiated with the college prayer. This was followed by the kind words of Dr. (Mrs) Agnese Dhillon, Principal, who shared her insights on the importance of integrated living by celebrating the most significant days which is associated with the animal kingdom. She adjured the students to lead a life of empathy and compassion through adopting vegetarian diet. Further, the resource person through his delicacy of expression pinpointed the urgency of the situation to adopt vegetarian eating habits. Insightful anecdotes were shared among the students to reflect the need of giving up flesh eating. Also, he highlighted the researches that vegetarians are less likely to develop health-related problems like obesity, cancer or heart diseases with special reference to zoonotic diseases and deadly infections with contaminated slaughtered animals.
The Convener of the event, Dr. Seema Sareen expressed her views on the harmonious outlook towards the animals and infused the insight of the world being a system of whole, where each entity has its due importance assigned. The session was adjourned with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Anuradha Agnihotri, Assisstant Professor. All the COVID-19 norms were followed, with proper social distancing and sanitizers placed at the entrance gate.
By all means, the event was a great success.
