Wildlife Week Celebration

Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector-36 B, Chandigarh in collaboration with NSS units and Environment club of the college organized “Wildlife Week” from 1st October,2020 to 7th October, 2020. Wildlife Week is celebrated every year in India. Wildlife Week was conceptualized in 1952 with the overall goal of raising awareness to serve the long-term goal of safeguarding the lives of wildlife through critical action. The theme of World Wildlife Day 2020, “Sustaining all life on Earth”, encompasses all wild animal and plant species as a component of biodiversity, as well as the livelihoods of people, especially those who live closest to the nature. In recent decades, human encroachment has posed a threat to India’s wildlife. In 1972, India enacted the Wildlife Protection Act and Project Tiger to safeguard crucial habitat; further federal protections were promulgated in the 1980s.

The objective of celebrating Wildlife Week is to focus everyone’s attention towards the importance of conservation of the wildlife and to discuss the issues related to the preservation of the wildlife.Various activities like Quiz competition, PPT making and video making were organized for celebrating National Wildlife Week by the students. The students have shown great zeal and enthusiasm by participating in different activities and pledged to save the rich flora and fauna of our country. The results of the competition were as follows:
